Fruits: Quality and health benefits


Fruits are the energy pumps. Every doctor emphasizes the usage of various fruits in routine. People also have much awareness regarding the use of different fruits. Other than the nutritive values and calorie yield, it is very essential to know the quality of different fruits and their health benefits.
Here is a brief account of various classical fruits (Ref: Charaka samhita,Sutrasthana 27/125-165)

Grapes(angoor)- energizer, increases the body mass, aphrodisiac, coolant, laxative and good in acid peptic disorders as well as constipation.
Date fruits(khajoor)- bulk enhancer, rejuvenator, revitalize and coolant. Beneficial in emaciation, quick healing and burning sensation
Fig (anjur)- nourisher/nutritive, tonic, coolant but constipative
Mango(aam)- muscle power enhancer, revitalize , aphrodisiac, tonic, good in rhinitis, debility and cardiac disorders.
Violet mulberry fruit(jamun phal)- absorbent of water content and good in promoting the withstanding capacity of urine.Good in diabetes. Excess may cause neurological disorders.
Gooseberry(amvla)- rejuvenator, cardiac tonic, revitalizer; good in debility, fatigue, morbidity of the body, premature grayness of hair, acid peptic disorders etc
Pome granate(anaar)- cardiac tonic, absorbent of water content; good in cold, rhinitis, heart diseases and diarrhea.
Garcinia fruit (birinda/mirinda)- absorbent, cardiac tonic, carminative, digestive. Good to promote the taste and to pacify bilious complaints like bilious headache, acid peptic disorders, heart burn etc.
